Q&A - Self Interview
Why sponsor me?
Sponsoring a free surfer can be the most pointless move by a company in my opinion.
But sponsoring the right free surfer can be the best move, better then a competition surfer.
I won a lot of little state competitions and club comps when I was younger and got sponsorship through that but I didnt stand out really, No one other then the other kids in the club knew who I was!
I dont do competition anymore and guess what, more people know me now then when I did comps!
I've been in atleast ten seperate news papers in the last 5 months, one surfing magazine and was even on the news on tv a few weeks ago.
What for?
For surfing. Free surfing. I travel all year around Australia and there hasnt been a wave that I've seen and havn't surfed. I've been doing this since I was 16.
In a few days time I'm setting off on a trip around the entire coast of Australia.
With one twist, I'm hitchhiking the entire way. I will be the youngest person to ever hitchhike the whole way around Australia.
Am I marketable?
The question on all companies lips.
For this next trip I expect the media attention to be phenomenal, with already three newspaper interviews lined up.
Along with that, I also have a website:
www.samnorwood.net
With an online presence like no other free surfer and a media presence, it would make me extremely marketable.
Will I accept any sponsors?
Basicly. But not all sponsors will be able to have a link on my website and I wont be able to give all sponsors a mention in all media. Depending on the sponsorship offer, something can be worked out.
Any more questions?

Q&A - Personal
Describe your style...
I like to try and have a fast power surfing kind of style but in the smaller stuff I become a more of a comp surfer trying to do as many turns as I can.
Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?
I travel year round. Have travelled by myself since I was 16.
My best travel story yet is living in the desert, West of Australia. I lived there for about 4 months surfing some pretty gnarly waves. I had to leave though because I snapped the five boards I took with me.
What inspires you to compete?
I dont compete.
Why?
I hate the way competitions work (in any sport). I dont like loosing and I dont like winning. Trying to be better then someone just doesnt appeal to me.
I'd rather get the medias attetion doing something that takes a lot more. Such as travelling around Australia with just a surfboard and a backback.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I surf basically every day that theres a wave, that can be surfed. I live about 5kms from the beach up a bit of a hill so I ride to the surf and back.
Music?
I like to listen to nearly all genres of music.
I also play guitar and sing. Before I started surfing pretty seriously, I played a fair few gigs around Australia.
My highlight was getting played on a radio station Australia wide!
