At the 2007 El Tour de Tucson (a 109 mile road bike race) I got the bug to get a new road bike. In February 2008 I got my brand new Trek Madone 6.5 from my local Bike America store. The new bike only weighs 14.1 pounds - talk about a SLICK ride! I thought I might have to try racing once my new bike arrived. Found out about a local time trial in my area and signed up for it.
On March 9th, 2008 I competed in my very first time trial and won 3rd place in my age group. Not too shabby for a 44 year old soccer mom! I won my age group, at the second duathlon I competed in on March 1, 2009.
I've recently started to compete in duathlons, run-bike-run. I'm not a swimmer, so no triathlons for this chick. I competed in my first half marathon on December 7th, 2008 and am thinking about doing my first full marathon in January, 2010 at the Disney Marathon. I'm also curiously interested in Cyclo Cross racing, and recently sold my mountain bike to buy a Felt Breed single speed cyclocross bike. Single speed!?! Pretty cool. I'm also in the market for a dedicated time trial bike, so if there are any bike manufacturers out there that would like to sponsor me, or offer me a really DEEP discount on a TT bike - CALL ME!!!!
Getting off my butt, almost 5 years ago, at 40 years old and getting onto a bike. Yes, an old dog can learn new tricks!
